Family Support Worker

Wilson School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Whānau/Family Support Worker to join our team. We are a specialist school located on Auckland’s North Shore, committed to providing holistic education and support to students with special needs. Essential Criteria:

  • Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA) Clearance
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of NZ Disability System: Keeps up-to-date with the New Zealand disability system.
  • Proficient IT Skills: Possesses strong IT skills.
  • Driver’s License and Vehicle: Holds a current driver’s license and has access to their own vehicle.
  • Self-Motivated and Organised: Self-motivated with effective organisational and self-management skills.
  • Cultural Understanding: Understands Aotearoa New Zealand’s cultural heritage, with Te Tiriti o Waitangi as the foundation.
  • Innovative and Reflective Practitioner: Approaches work with innovation and reflection.

Desired Criteria:

  • Relevant Study: Has completed a study in related fields such as children’s issues, disability, or education.
  • Facilitation/Group Work Skills: Experienced in facilitating group work.
  • Child Disability Field Experience: Previous experience in the child disability field.

 About the Role:

As a Whānau/Family Support Worker at Wilson School, you will play a crucial role in supporting our students and their families. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other specialists to provide comprehensive support tailored to each student’s needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individual and group support to students and their families.
  • Collaborating with staff to develop and implement support plans.
  • Advocating for students and their families within the school and the wider community.
  • Keeping accurate records and maintaining confidentiality.
  • This is a part-time role, up to 3 days per week. This position could be considered to work term time only, we are happy to have some flexibility.
